About
Hey y’all! Welcome to my website. My name is Reid Somers Flamm, and I’m an imaginative and team-oriented Game Designer and Full Stack Software Developer with a combined 4+ years of experience working as a Systems and Level Designer in professional and indie game development.
My educational background originally started with attending game programming courses throughout high school at the Digipen school in Redmond, WA. My passion for game development continued onwards to college, where I attended Champlain College in Burlington, VT studying Game Design, and focusing primarily on Systems Design. My final project there, titled [o], won Game of the Year at my college, and was presented at multiple game expos in the northeastern United States. During and immediately after college, I worked at Nintendo as a game tester to acquaint myself in the world of quality assurance and gain an understanding of how to refine a game into a polished product.
Soon after, I moved on to working at Glu Mobile as an Associate Game Designer, designing on the games Deer Hunter and Sniper X. My work there focused primarily on weapon balancing, event design, level design, and leading group tests. I handled the development of over 8 different regions and managed 6 different holiday events.
In addition to games, I have a passion for technology in general, which led me to pursue a role as a Laser Scanning Specialist for a local tech startup in Seattle called Datum Tech Solutions. This gradually evolved into the role of the Chief Technology Officer of the company and brought me into the realm of managing a team of people across the country. However, my true passion lies with game design and development, and I chose to go back to school to increase my technical skill set and return to working as a game designer. In order to do so, I took a 3 month software engineering bootcamp to increase my capabilities as a gameplay scripter and programmer to further my potential for game design and prototyping.
Most recently, I have worked as a Game Designer and eventually a Lead Level Designer on a digital trading card game called Verses, developed by Many Hands Inc. My work focused primarily on creating a standard for level designs, creating and balancing card mechanics, and translating the traditional turn-based card format of popular trading card games like magic into a digital playspace in a similar vein to games like clash royale.
I am currently actively working on an indie game titled Aero, which is a multiplayer arena fighting game being developed in the Unity game engine. As it is a solo project, I am doing all aspects including art modeled in Blender, programming in C#, and doing systems and level design in-editor in Unity. I would be happy to show off my progress on the project to demonstrate my current work.
Of course, I love to play games when I’m not dabbling in Unity and Unreal Engine. Outside of gaming pursuits, my passion for world history, nature, travel and music inspire me in my creative endeavors.
